Richmond FC and BC Soccer Life Member Jim Lamond passed away on Friday, July 1st at age 93. Jim is survived by his wife June and children Christine and Jim Jr.

Many came to know Jim in the 50 years he served soccer and sports. He coached, refereed and was a leader with Richmond FC. Provincially, In the 70s/80s Jim worked on BC’s Games teams. In the 80s/90s Jim was President of BC Youth Soccer for six years and a BC Soccer Director. In the ‘00s he was a Canada Soccer Director. For the last 15 years, Jim has continued to serve sports as Chair of Richmond Sports Council – so he passed away “with his boots on”.

Over the years, Jim continued to be actively involved with Richmond FC – attending all of the soccer season wind-ups to hand out medals to our youth players. Jim was involved in club governance attending annual AGMs with thoughtful input and guidance. Richmond FC will miss Jim’s presence both on and off the field.

Former Richmond FC Chair & BC Soccer President, Roger Barnes shared this memory of Jim – “I was so fortunate to become Jim’s friend for the last 20 years working with him on soccer, Sports Council and the 2009 Richmond Seniors Games. Jim was strong, passionate and loyal, his friendship was unlimited and unwavering.”

A Celebration of Jim’s Life is scheduled for 2.00 pm on Saturday August 13th at South Arm Community Centre, Richmond, BC.
